The 2009 High Bridge Volunteer of the year award was presented on January 28, 2010 by the High Bridge Mayor and Council to Jeffrey Smith for his loyal dedication to the residents of High Bridge as a 27 year member of the High Bridge Fire Department as: Foreman (Officer), Director of Apparatus, Head of the Truck Committee, Treasurer, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. He served as Chief from January 1, 1993 through December 31, 1998, thereby setting a new record as the longest consecutive years of service as Fire Chief. He served again as Chief from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2009. Jeffrey Smith was instrumental in establishing mutual aid with surrounding communities, and guiding the department towards modernization of equipment, facilities, training and management. He also served as head of the High Bridge Centennial Celebration Committee in 1998.
Jeffrey Smith, born and raised in High Bridge has displayed the unique ability to volunteer his talents to his hometown, while balancing a career and together with his wife Pam raise two children.
Jeffrey Smith has not only excelled as a volunteer, but has gone above and beyond his required duties. His loyalty and dedication have greatly benefited the residents of High Bridge and surrounding communities.
The Mayor, Council and the residents of the Borough of High Bridge, in the County of Hunterdon and the State of New Jersey respectfully thank Jeffrey Smith for making High Bridge a better, safer community for all to enjoy
